NEXT CLUB COMPTETION - Saturday 31st October
Moorabool Reservoir which is now at 82% water capacity and clear of blue green algae, and recently stocked with 8000 rainbow trout by VR Fish with some good fish caught recently . Given the 82% water level the lake is best fly fished by moving all the time until you locate the trout - good exercise also.
Target visible weed beds - where the fish actively feed. Lines that will work well: Float, float with sink tip and slow intermediate. Flies that work well in this reservoir are streamers. woolly buggers, shreks, roosters, greenies, blackies, tom jones' mudeye, nymphs, crunchers, midges, damsel nymphs, smelt, stick caddis nymph. The trout should be on the hunt after spawning and resent rains have them exploring newly flooded territory for midge, smelt, damsel nymphs and mudeye. It's a good idea to vary your retrieve, and change flies when you think it's time.
Moorabool is located 85klms away on Spargo Creek Road just off the Western Hwy. Take C291 exit, turn right on Springbank Road then left onto Spargo Creek Road.
Meet for lunch at 12.30pm at the Moorabool Reservoir Park where there are toilets, BBQ's etc,
Don't forget to take a picture of your fish on the brag mat with your club card visible.
Weather forecast for Saturday is good for fly fishing - overcast and a chance of a shower. Layer up for the Ballarat cold!
