’The Sunshine Fly Casting Club was established in 1965 and has been helping fly fishers' develop their casting skills and enjoying the sport of fly fishing for more than 60 years,
We are a friendly not for profit club that welcomes members of all experience levels. We meet on the 1st, 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month for social fly tying, casting practice and social activities. and every third Tuesday is our monthly general meeting. We run regular club and intra club tournaments and competitions throughout the year.
Our club is abut learning, sharing knowledge, enjoying the outdoors and building friendships through fly fishing.

The Secretary of our club. Wendy keeps the club running behind the scenes, looking after administration, and communication and the many jobs that keep our club active and connected with it's members and the community.
The Sunshine Fly Casting Club is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers.

TREASURER
Marian, our Treasurer, has a background in accounting and manages the club's finances including banking, payments and financial records. Marian ensures that the club' financial requirements and obligations are met.

FISHING COMPETITION RULES

RULES FOR FISHING COMPETITIONS 1. Competitors must be financial members of the Club and hold a current fishing licence where required. 2. Fly tackle only is to be used. 3. Competition venues are determined by the Fishing Committee at the monthly meeting or prior to the competition. 4. Start and finish times are established before each competition. Usually sunrise to sunset (EST or DST). Times may be extended in exceptional circumstances by a majority vote of members present. 5. The designated venue is to be fished by all competitors. In certain circumstances, the Committee may determine if an alternative fishing radius of 50k will apply. 6. The designated venue may be changed by a majority vote of members present at the established lunch meeting. Competitors must present themselves within the nominated lunch period of 12.30 pm - 1.30pm. 7. Junior members must remain within sight and sound of a senior member at all times. 8. Competition fees are payable as determined by the Club. Members are responsible for ensuring their fees are paid ruling them ineligable to have their fish counted. 9. Fish must meet the applicable size, bag and other fishing regulations for the particular fishery. Fish are to be measured naturally on the Club's measuring device or mat, photographed with the member's current membership card, and released unharmed if not being kept. 10. All measured legal fish are to be recorded in the club logbook and fees paid at the next meeting. 11. If all other competitors leave early, a fisherperson may remain and continue fishing, although the venue cannot be changed. The competition will finish at sunset unless extended under Rule 4. Any recorded fish must be presented at the next meeting as required under Rule 10. 12. A competition listed in the club syllabus remains a valid competition, even if only one member participates. 13. Any protests must be lodged with a Fishing Committee member by the end of the competition. The Fishing Committee will determine the outcome at the next meeting, and its decision will be final. 14. Boats, kayaks and float tubes are generally permitted at boat competitions where approved by the Fishing Committee, such as the Lake Fyans Fly-In. 15. Basic fishing etiquette applies, including maintaining approximately 30 metres between fisherpersons. These competition rules were last amended by the Fishing Committee and members on 17 May 2022 and may be updated by the Club from time to time.

SFCC FISHING COMPETION - GOULBURN RIVER AND TRIBUTARIES INCLUDING EILDON PONDAGE TROUT OPENING OF RIVERS SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER Please note: the next SFCC fishing competition will be at one of our most challenging locations - Goulburn River and tributaries including Eildon pondage. The Goulburn today is flowing at 1000MGL which may change by Saturday and recently stocked and with stonker rainbow and brown trout by VR Fish and there's been some good fish caught recently. Given the number of anglers out and about of Saturday the Goulburn is best fly fished by moving all the time until you locate the trout - good exercise also. The Goulburn River and the Pondage should be fished with a fast sinking line 5-7 IPS, with a shorter than normal leader. (9ft is plenty.) Leader for stonker trout at least 10lb. Beaded flies at least 3mm to gdet down into the water where fish are quicker. Flies that work well in this river and pondage are streamers,woolly buggers, shreks, rooster, greenies, blackies, Tom Jones', mudeye and nymphs. The trout should be on the hunt after spawning. Good idea to vary your retrieve, and change flies when you think it's time. Other flies to keep in m ind given many of these trout have recently come from circling in hatchery ponds are mop flies whcih resemble their food source for the last four years. Fluro colours are also enjoyed by hungry trout!
